Wildlife Haven at Birdland Park & Gardens
Details
New life has been breathed into 2.5 acres of wasteland adjacent to Bourton-on-the-Water’s Birdland. This previous eyesore has been turned into a nature trail, a haven for wildlife and home to more than 50 species of birds, along with frogs, grass snakes, insects, dragonflies and hundreds of plant species.
Marshmouth Nature Reserve has 500m of level pathways to allow easy access for wheelchairs and there are three hides, overlooking the River Windrush where visitors can watch various wildlife (including the Kingfisher, who is a regular visitor), in a completely natural habitat. The Nature Reserve also includes two ponds with a pond dipping area.
The aim is to get everyone who walks around the reserve, just a little more aware of the nature around them, so there are signs telling you what you might see in certain areas at particular times of year.
Bird boxes have been installed, many of which are now inhabited, so visitors can sit and watch quietly and track where these birds are nesting and feeding their young
We feel we have created a little oasis here, so please take your time, bring a picnic if you wish and we hope you enjoy your visit!
