Details

The Ham lies in the flood plain of the River Severn and is a remnant of much wider areas of old meadowland, now destroyed by drainage and ploughing. The reserve is renowned for its wintering wildfowl. Up to 4,000 wigeon, 1,500 teal and 1,000 mallard can be seen here, with small numbers of pintail and shoveler. Tufted duck, pochard, goldeneye and great crested and little grebes are amongst the diving birds. Bewick swan are regular winter visitors and some white-fronted geese are seen.
